Meet an Attorney – Berkley Foltz

Marks & Harrison’s commitment to provide exceptional legal services is an integral component of our success. We are continuously expanding our team and adding talented attorneys to support our ever-growing caseload. The newest addition to our team is Berkley Foltz, a workers’ compensation attorney. To help you get to know Berkley, we recently interviewed her. We provide the details below and welcome you to contact us if you have any questions about Ms. Foltz or a workers’ compensation claim.

Q: What practice areas do you cover?

A: I mostly focus on workers’ compensation claims. There are many ways employees can be injured at work, including motor vehicle accidents, lifting, cutting or crushing trauma, and falls, to name a few. I believe that when people are injured simply because they were doing their job and trying to support their family, they deserve a strong ally in their corner to help them obtain the benefits to which they are entitled under Virginia’s workers’ compensation system. I feel that it’s my job to help them navigate this complex system and ease their burden while they are dealing with the challenges of a work-related injury and missed time from work.

Q: Why did you choose Marks & Harrison to practice law?

A: Marks & Harrison has a long history of standing up for workers that spans more than 100 years. I felt the firm truly appreciates the important role workers’ compensation benefits play in the lives of their clients and their families. I believed that I could be an important part of the team to help injured workers obtain the benefits they need.

Q: What made you decide to become a lawyer?

A: My dad is a lawyer, and I have always admired his ability to remain calm in almost any situation. I also loved his ability to analyze and problem solve. I worked at his firm throughout college and decided a legal career was the right path for me. I also really love helping people and making a positive difference in their lives.

Q: What is your connection to Virginia?

A: I was born in Newport News, VA. I attended law school at the University of Richmond. I live and work in Virginia. I have family in the area. Richmond is a great city. I love having all the seasons, the river, the food, and the beer! I’m proud to call Virginia home.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?

A: We love going to the beach every summer with extended family. The tradition started with my grandma, and her children have continued it. I’ve looked forward to that vacation every year since I was born! Today, I love including my children in this tradition. I also love escaping to the mountains when it’s too hot in Richmond, and I love the Florida Keys when it’s cold.

Q: Who is your hero?

A: Honestly, I have a lot of heroes because I respect certain aspects and accomplishments in many people. But, if I had to name one, it would be my grandmother. She was such a strong woman, especially for her era, and she raised four successful children. She was a great role model and instilled the importance of hard work and love of family in me.

Q: What is one thing that people may not understand about workers’ compensation?

A: Workers’ compensation doesn’t only concern workplace accidents. It also includes occupational illnesses, which are usually the result of long-term exposure or repetitive motion injuries, toxic chemicals, heart attacks, and exposure to toxic materials. So, even if you did not have a one-time accident at work, if you suffered an occupational illness over time, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.

Q: What benefits does workers’ compensation provide?

A: Workers’ compensation laws provide wage and medical benefits to an employee who has an injury as a result of an accident, injury, or occupational disease on the job.

Q: Are you a member of any legal organizations?

A: Yes. I’m a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

Q: What is something interesting about you?

A: I am really good with dates and remember birthdays really well.

Q: What motivates you to work hard?

A: Being able to help and make a difference for others.

Q: How do colleagues describe you to others?

A: “She fights hard for her clients to ensure they get all the benefits they’re entitled to.”

Q: What can clients expect when they contact you?

A: I can provide a straightforward analysis of your case and give you practical advice about how to proceed with your case. When you hire us, you’ll receive help from a team of professionals dedicated to helping you reach a positive outcome in your case.
