Virginia Lawyer Referrals
The growth of Marks & Harrison has been fueled to a
great extent by the confidence other lawyers have shown
by asking us to join with them in representing their
clients in serious and complex cases. We have worked
extensively with lawyers throughout
Virginia and the
United States in a variety of practice areas.
BECAUSE THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN SPECIFIC CASES DEPEND ON A VARIETY OF FACTORS UNIQUE TO EACH CASE, PAST CASE RESULTS DO NOT GUARANTEE OR PREDICT A SIMILAR RESULT IN FUTURE CASES UNDERTAKEN BY A LAWYER OR LAW FIRM.
Brain Injuries
We have recovered significant damages in more than 10 brain injury cases, including an award for $10 million. We've represented clients injured in accidents involving trucks, tractor trailers, trains, construction and commercial vehicles. We've also handled bad faith insurance claims, including a case involving a brain-injured child. We have extensive resources at our disposal to help evaluate and prove traumatic brain injury, and our attorneys are well-versed in both Virginia state and federal insurance laws. The attorneys at Marks & Harrison have authored a manual for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association on handling mild traumatic brain injury cases and have chaired specialized retreats dealing with these difficult cases.
Tractor Trailer
Tractor trailer cases are among the most frequently handled legal actions within our law office. We've recovered multimillion dollar awards for our clients, including a recovery for $12 million. We have a long-standing reputation among insurance companies for our diligent investigative abilities and our tough stance on negligent trucking practices. The attorneys at Marks & Harrison have authored multiple papers on tractor trailer cases and serve on the Board of Directors of the Association of Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America.
Catastrophic Personal Injury
With 18 attorneys and a staff of more than 70, we are one of the three largest personal injury law firms in the state. Our attorneys have represented thousands of injury victims since the inception of our firm in 1911.
Social Security Disability
We often receive referrals from other law firms -- and from physicians -- because of our experience in Social Security Disability cases. Our staffing resources enable us to effectively handle the paperwork and procedures inherent in disability claims.
Premises Liability
Our work in premises liability litigation spans multiple industries and types of injury. We have represented clients injured in a pier collapse and a balcony collapse. We represented one client who was injured because a safety rail was missing and another hurt by an advertising banner. Whatever the circumstances, our attorneys are knowledgeable in Virginia premises liability law, and we're able to conduct comprehensive examinations of accident scenes. We're also able to develop expert testimony and opinions from a variety of qualified sources.
Referral Fees
We vigorously protect all referral fees. The typical referred case requires Marks & Harrison to handle the majority of the work and direct the flow of the litigation. On a number of cases, we have joint-ventured a case, with our firm handling certain aspects of the matter and the referring firm other aspects. Because of the wide variation in working relationships, the specific referral fee is dictated by the relationship which is created.
