The Civil Adult Treatment Programs at Central State Hospital provide services to clients over 18 years of age from the Central Virginia area. The services provided range from short term, quick re-entry to the community, to long-term intensive treatment for the most seriously mentally ill. Central State Hospital is the site of Virginia's only Forensic Mental Health Unit. Clients involved with the criminal justice system are admitted to this treatment program.

Poplar Springs Hospital is a free-standing psychiatric facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. The facility is currently licensed for a total of 199 beds, which include 75 acute (intensive treatment unit, adult, active military unit and adolescent), 108 residential treatment beds and 16 group home beds. Programs include psychological and behavioral treatment for adults and adolescents aged 11-18, extended adolescent acute, residential, sexual abuse prevention and group homes. An intensive outpatient program for substance abuse is located in Richmond, 30 miles north of the facility campus. Poplar Springs treats depression, stress, anxiety, substance abuse, crisis stabilization, suicidal thoughts, adolescent emotional problems, post traumatic stress disorder, sexual, physical or emotional abuse, and behavioral problems.

The Active Duty Clinic serves active duty patients on an appointment only basis. The clinic offers a full range of primary care services to meet the needs of the solider including physical exams, medical boards, minor procedures and the evaluation and management of acute/chronic injuries and illnesses. The Troop Medical Clinic provides care to AIT soldiers referred by the BAS. Patients are seen for chronic problems, illnesses and injuries requiring lengthy visits or which are complex in nature, and minor procedures and specialty referrals.
