Our firm acts aggressively on behalf of our clients. Once we take on a case, we immediately deploy our team of investigators – including a former state trooper and two former police officers.

We also consult with highly qualified experts from a wide range of fields, including accident reconstruction experts, mechanical engineers, medical experts, forensic specialists, and life-care planners.

We prepare our cases as if they are going to trial. This allows us to enter settlement negotiations with leverage and helps us to be ready to go to battle in the courtroom on behalf of our clients and their families.

Our Involvement with the Community

A major part of our firm’s philosophy is to go beyond our law practice in serving our community. We are actively involved in a variety of civic, charitable and educational activities in Richmond, including:

  • ¿Que Pasa? Festival – We are sponsors of this annual event organized by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is held at the historic Canal Walk.

For many years, Marks & Harrison, visited local high schools to present a drinking and driving safety program, “Make it Home.” We now offer e-books that are aimed at educating teens about the risks of texting while driving.

Additionally, our entire law firm enthusiastically participates in our “Casual for a Cause” program, which allows employees to come to work in casual attire in exchange for making donations. During the holidays, we use those funds to adopt Salvation Army Angels and purchase food, toys, clothing and other items for deserving families throughout the Richmond area.

Legal Information

We consider it important for Richmond residents to understand different aspects of the legal system in our community and state.

For instance, civil claims such as personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits in Richmond generally are litigated in the 13th Judicial Circuit, or Richmond Circuit Court.

If a case is filed in the federal court system, however, it may be litigated in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, which is located in the Spottswood W. Robinson III and Robert R. Merhige, Jr., Federal Courthouse on East Broad Street.

Additionally, Richmond is the home of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, which is based in the Lewis F. Powell Jr. Courthouse & Annex on East Main Street in Richmond.

Workers’ compensation cases are pursued through the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. If a hearing is required, it would be held in the Commission’s central office, which is located in Richmond on DMV Drive, or at one of the Commission’s regional offices.

Social Security disability claims, on the other hand, are processed in local Social Security Administration field offices, which are located throughout the city. A hearing in your case, if needed, would be held in the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review on Main Street in Richmond.
